Patrick and I have been enjoying the non-snowy weather. Today we decided to kick it up a notch and go bird watching at Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary. We filled our bodies with a big omelet breakfast and headed out the door. It was a glorious 11 degrees today, but felt like 15 in the sun.
Thirty minutes into the drive, I smacked myself in the forehead and said, “I forgot the binoculars.” We brushed it off and kept on smiling like idiots. Especially, me.
Even without the binoculars we saw quite a few birds. It was a little hard identifying them without the binoculars, but we made educated guesses.
On the way home, we spotted an Asian grocery store! So, we went in and grabbed some bean sprouts and Calpico (Asian soda pop). Then Patrick said, “there’s one common bird we haven’t seen today.” I pondered his comment and then replied, “what bird?” He said, “the Jr. Chicken.” We laughed (mostly Patrick) and then had lunch at McDonald’s.
When we got home we spotted our friend Alec Baldwing, a Bald Eagle who lives in the trees across the road from us. We grabbed our binoculars and did some eagle watching. There were three of them!
The moral of the story is, we didn’t have to leave home to go bird watching. Nature’s finest is right outside our front door.
